How to build a media empire in a sports company
Ever wonder what it takes to build a media empire in sports as an entrepreneur?
Sure there are the big guys who have sports teams and sports magazines but what about those of us who own sports companies at a community or state level? There is money to be made you just have to know where to look and how to do it.
Some of you may know that I own several companies and one of them happens to be a sports company. Well I want to do a midseason review for you of what’s happening now in my company to give you some quick insight on how you can build a media empire in a sports company. There are a lot of ideas in this post that can help across a multitude of industries, but for now I am just focusing on the sports aspect and what I have done.
It all starts with having a vision for yourself and knowing where you want to go.
Of course just having clarity isn’t enough you actually have to back that up with some great research on the gaps in the market place and then of course fill the void. But I always start with getting clear on where I’m going. And these next 6 months are filled with leveling up with writing, video, infographics, and speaking and something new that I have kind of done a bit but will be stepping into more, merchandising.
One of the things I have done to build my media empire within the sports realm is to write books that fill a need within my baseball group. Writing has given me a huge position of authority to talk on multiple platforms about what my audience needs to know and why I’m the best person to help them get to their next level of excellence.
We all know that video is huge in the marketing space but we don’t always do it. I’m guilty of it too. Sometimes it’s a timing thing and sometimes I just don’t have the energy to shoot the video, do an edit, upload it and then promote it. But imagine shooting a quick video clip and adding that to your written piece?It adds more value and reaches a broader audience. We all could use more exposure to new people.
I have done a few of these pieces that have really broken down some steps about things that seem complicated but really aren’t. They are a great way to build interest for your writing and for your video. They may not have the potential to make money for you out the gate but they definitely serve their purpose to lead people to your media and get them familiar with who you are and what you do.
I’m a speaker, but I also hire other speakers to work with me to talk about their area of expertise that directly relates to what I am teaching. This component is definitely a strong piece in building your media empire and adds to your revenue stream.
For a lot of high performers such as yourself we tend to do it all. But what I learned is its great for me to know the ins and outs of what I’m doing but I don’t have to actually do it all. And that is where the outsourcing come in. I can hire out someone to do the part that takes a lot of time so I can free up my time to focus on the areas of my business that bring in more money. Because after all isn’t that why we are building an empire?
I know I’m creating my 7 figure business everyday and concentrating on doing what I do best makes for an incredible life.
